You’ve started GLP-1 therapy, now what? Depending on your diet, you may want to make some adjustments. My goal is to give you some pointers on how to maximize the benefits of GLP-1 therapy.

The plate method is a great starter point. The plate involves dividing your plate into sections to ensure you’re getting a good mix of nutrients. Half of your plate should be filled with fruits and vegetables. These are rich in vitamins, minerals, and fiber. A quarter of your plate should be reserved for lean proteins. Protein is essential for building and repairing tissues. The other quarter of your plate should have fiber-filled carbohydrates. Carbs are going to help give your energy, whereas the fiber is going to aid in the digestive process. Both proteins and fibers are going to help keep you feeling fuller longer.

You’re going to want to eliminate liquid calories. Drink a lot of water and try to avoid soft drinks and most juices. If you’re wanting a soda, diet soda in moderation is okay. Water is not only going to help keep you hydrated, but it is also going to aid in the digestive process.

Limit your intake of unhealthy fats and added sugars. Some examples of unhealthy fats are coconut oil, whole milk, margarine, fried foods, bacon, poultry skin, and cheese. Here’s some examples that sometimes have added sugars: Yogurts, condiments, cereal, fruit juice, bread, dried fruits, desserts, and soda. When it comes to dairy products, you can use low-fat or fat-free so you can still have your beloved dairy.

Now, not all fats are unhealthy. Fat’s are extremely important to your body for a number of reasons; They provide energy to your body. Healthy fats also help your body absorb vitamin A, D, and E. Not to mention they help with brain health, inflammation, heart health, temperature regulation, and your immune system. Don’t forget everything you consume, should always be done in moderation.

● Fiber-Filled Carbohydrates: Sweet Potatoes, Oatmeal, Beans, Brown Rice, Apples, Bananas
